Biocides For Europe

IS THE PLATFORM WHERE ALL INDUSTRY STAKEHOLDERS INVOLVED IN THE BIOCIDES SECTOR CAN EXCHANGE VIEWS AND CONTRIBUTE TO THE ONGOING DEBATES

Biocides represent a diverse and highly skilled industry, with specialised and essential products that provide enormous benefits to society, each day, many of which we take for granted.

Where are Biocides used?

Disinfectants

Products that are used on hard inanimate surfaces and objects or intact skin to destroy or irreversibly inactivate fungi, bacteria and viruses but not necessarily their spores.

Preservatives

Extend the lifetime of a product by reducing/ delaying its decomposition due to the growth of microorganisms. Allow the shift from solvent-based products (such as paints) to water-based products. Avoid spoilage and deterioration.

Pest control products

Prevent unwelcome animals (rats, cockroaches) from visiting or make their home in residential buildings, industrial sites and urban areas. Keep foodstuffs from contamination, structural timbers from damage, preventing either great economic loss, fire hazards or vector-born diseases.

Other biocidal products

Prevent marine organisms from settling on the hull. Avoid excessive consumption of fuel. Prevent severe damage of the vessel but also the transport of harmful marine organisms to other areas.
